To me it's a simple "no-brainer" and that's  because I and many others believe, up to around 1995, Mercedes-Benz vehicles were simply the finest engineered automobiles in the world, and built on this ethos, the three pointed star became a highly aspiration pan- global brand, but a brand with real substance behind it. Just one testament to this is how many times you hear the words "Mercedes-Benz" appearing in the lyrics of many popular songs, especially those from the 1960's and 1970's  the most notable of them all being  "Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz" by Janis Joplin….what other non American car has had a song entirely dedicated to it?

As such, I aim to specialise in what most people now regard as "The Proper Mercedes", that is the ones that were built to an exacting engineering standard, and not a price. The more you work on, and learn about these great cars, the more incredible you realise they are.

I have a particular soft spot for the  W201 190E, as it was my own first "Benz" back in the early 1990's and I've since watched the prices of these cars rise steadily over the last couple of years, as the realisation of just how good they are becomes apparent among the Classic car fraternity. Personally, I think the W201 was Mercedes' best car of the last 30 years. Many W123 owners would maybe disagree, but out of all the Mercedes made 1980 onwards, the 190E seems to ail less problems than the rest of the range - if you ask anyone who's ever owned a 190/190E, you won't hear many (if any) bad reports. It's also testament to how good they are by the number still on the roads today, some 16 years since the last one rolled off the production line on 5th May 1993. Mercedes risked the entire future of the company on the success of the W201 190/190E, so didn't take any chances in it's development and production--the result was the finest Mercedes in many, many years.

Why Mercedes?

Other Marques

However, unlike many blinkered car enthusiasts I don't have an entirely "one track" brand view of the world of classic cars, so would never rule a car out because it isn't a Mercedes. I have particular soft spots for Old Saabs, Alfa Romeo, Old BMW's, Fords from the 1970's & 1980's, MG's (proper ones), Classic Porsche and Classic VW's, so  don't be surprised if the odd "non-Merc" appears on my site now and again. Here's a few examples from over the years...
